US Open 2012: Victoria Azarenka knocks out Sam Stosur
• Belarusian beats defending champion 6-1, 4-6, 7-6
• Rain stops Maria Sharapova match with Marion Bartoli

Sam Stosur, the defending champion, went out of the US Open with a whimper before a doomed bang in the quarter-finals against Victoria Azarenka, who seems well and truly to have her number.

This was the Australian's seventh straight defeat to the Belarusian, who won Stosur's national Open in February, although she did drop a set this time.

Azarenka breezed to 6-1, before giving up the second in a rousing fight, 4-6, then winning the tie-break in the third.

It was hard to feel confident about her going past the semi-finals, although the same could be said on the other side of the draw, where Maria Sharapova was 4-0 down against Marion Bartoli when rain forced them off on Tuesday evening. They are due to resume on Wednesday.

Stosur, who beat Laura Robson in the fourth round, said she was sad to be going home, happy to have played well after a disastrous start. In contrast, Robson said she could take nothing but disappointment away from their match, even though she rallied at the end.

  • Newcastle v Arsenal Betting Gunners odds on to secure a top four finish
The race for a Top Four Finish in the Premier League will go down to the wire this weekend and there is all to play for on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal travel to Newcastle knowing that a win would be enough to seal fourth place at least, ahead of their North London rivals Spurs, and Arsene Wenger's men are odds on for a season-defining win at St James' Park.
  • Swansea v Fulham Odds Swans favourites to end season with a win
Swansea and Fulham end their respective Premier League seasons with a meeting at the Liberty Stadium in Wales on Sunday afternoon. The Swans go into the match as favourites as they bid to round off a fine season with victory, while Fulham have been woeful during the run-in towards the end of the campaign and manager Martin Jol is coming under a bit of pressure.
  • Southampton v Stoke Odds Back a draw in the St Marys betting
Southampton welcome Stoke to St Mary's for the final game of the Premier League season on Sunday afternoon and there is something of a cloud hanging over the future of their manager. Mauricio Pochettino replaced Nigel Adkins in January but he has reportedly claimed that he will quit the club if chairman Nicola Cortese leaves this summer.
